DON Sunpil's passion for collecting figures dates back to his high school years. When he didn't have a smartphone,
he wandered around looking for figure shops with printed maps and showing a deep affection for figures,
collecting and exchanging information through the now-defunct 'I Figure' online community.
After receiving a BFA in Engraving at Hongik University, in his graduate school,
he started to develop figure assembly which he thought was just a hobby into artwork.
Later, the figure became a tool for him to explore the social meaning and semiotic phenomena beyond just a hobby.
『Figure TEXT: Wonder Festival Report』 gives a glimpse of his deep and high-level affection for figures. Focusing on the large-scale Japanese figure festival "Wonder Festival," which the artist visits every year, it covers a wide range of the process of making figures, the passion of collectors, and the tendency of beautiful figures, and talks about insights into the weight of time contained in figures.
