〈Ayanami Blue Mushroom_XXL〉, is DON Sunpil's 2023 work inspired by the main character Rei Ayanami from the 1997 animation "Neon Genesis EVANGELION." In the past, mold companies had a production sentiment that omitted the seemingly invisible structure for producing the most rational and waste-free "cost-effectiveness." In the 1980s, when Bishōjo figures began to be mass-produced due to the growing popularity of animation and comics, the skirts of Bishōjo's figures were designed to attach ankles under large chunks of skirts under this "cost-effectiveness" pursuit method, which was said to be shaped like a single "mushroom-shaped" chocolate snack. Unlike in the past, now it is rare for the skirt of a Bishōjo figure to look like a mushroom. Still, DON Sunpil takes a step further away from the original by raising the issue of "deteriorated reproduction," or reproduced copies with a lower quality than the original, while also showing the results of reinterpreting the deteriorated reproduction of figures.
