날리니 말라니 (Nalini MALANI, b. 1946) 작가는 인도 태생의 여성 작가로, 비디오 아트의 선두주자로서 회화, 벽화, 비디오 설치, 그림자극 (shadow play)등 다양한 장르의 작업을 해왔습니다.
《Nalini Malani: Listening to the Shades》에서 작가는 독일 출신의 비평가 및 소설가 크리스타 울프가 쓴 그리스 신화 등장인물
카산드라에 관한 글에 영감을 받아 작업하였습니다. 40장 이상의 이미지들의 재구성을 토대로 작가는 카산드라의 관점에서
소리없이 묻히고, 이단으로 낙인찍히거나 무시당하는 여성들의 모습을 그려냅니다.

'Nalini Malani: Listening to the Shades' held at Arario Gallery, New York from September to October 2008.
Nalini MALANI, as one of India's current leading artists, utilizes paintings, wall drawings, video installations and shadow play to discuss and confront the endless conflicts sparked between religious and ethnic groups.
This gilt-edged artist's book by the celebrated Indian artist Nalini Malani was inspired by the writings of the German critic and novelist Christa Wolf on the ancient Greek myth of Cassandra. Through more than 40 exquisitely reproduced images, Malani retells this story from the perspective of the unheard woman whose insights are constantly ignored or relegated to heresy.
